The Lord should be our home builder. He is the Architect and Designer for family life. The Lord lays out the blue prints for your family through His Word. We need the Lord as the Architect and Builder of our homes otherwise we are building our homes in vain.

Psalm 127: 1 reads: “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it.”

Mark 3:25 reads: “Similarly, a family splintered by feuding will fall apart.”

The building of a physical house takes much labour to complete and so does the building of your spiritual family home.  Many Christian families do not labour for their family unit yet they attend church every Sunday and partake in several ministries while their family is falling apart. Somehow we have missed the mark and we are not building our family with the Lord as we ought to.

How does the Lord build your family home?

Through His Word:

Through His Word He lays the foundation for your lives. Let the Word of the Lord be your foundation.

Matthew 7:24 reads:

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

If you build your house upon solid rock, when the storms of life come by, your house will still be standing because you have put God’s Word into practice.

How can we build our houses on solid rock? Well we have to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. If we are going to be used of God to lay a foundation of spiritual stability in our homes, we need to walk according to God’s Word.

When we respond to God’s Word, we will want to believe in, count on, act upon, walk in and practice it.

Another way the Lord builds our homes is through His Church:

The Lord uses His church (His Body) to build your spiritual home. It’s the fullness of Him. The church is where the fullness of life is learnt. Bring your family up in the church of Jesus Christ and be a part of it. God wants to build our lives in fullness of Him. He wants to use the church in our lives and our lives in the church.

Ephesians 1: 22 -23

“And God put everything under His feet and made Him head over everything for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

Ask the Lord for His guidance and wisdom. Put your trust in Him totally. Our understanding is not enough to lean on and keep us upright through battles. God promises to direct your paths in difficulty, in crisis or perhaps through new opportunities. You can certainly trust God’s wisdom and guidance through His word.

Proverbs 3: 5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.”

God builds our homes through His Grace:

Acts 20:32 reads:

“And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.”

It is by grace of God that we have been born into the family of God. We should want everyone in our household to receive grace, to know it, to feel it and be shown it. How do you live and grow in the grace of God? It’s through humility.

James 4:6 says that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Do not build your house with pride and self-sufficiency. Walk humbly among one another.

God builds our homes through faith:

Romans 5:2 reads:

“through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.”

Faith accesses grace. Faith takes grace as a resource to live by. Faith is not a work but it leads to the mighty works of God. Faith depends on the work of the Lord. Grace is for growing and He wants us to grow our homes in His grace.

2 Peter 3:18 reads:

“Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.”
