A Matter of the Heart
by Finding You is finding me…
Our hearts can be the driver seat for our life. It’s where our emotions, feelings and instincts come from. What does the Bible say about our hearts? There are four key verses pertaining to our hearts:
Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
The heart is the source of whatever affects our life and our character. In this verse God is counselling us to keep—that is to, guard, preserve, and to maintain—our hearts. Why are we to do this? Because Jeremiah 17 verse 9 says that our hearts are deceitful.
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it? “
We need to keep our minds from becoming carnal because this is enmity against God. This means that we have been born of the Spirit of God but we are not to walking in the Spirit. It is very easy to become defiled and backslide into old habits of sin.
Romans 8:7 “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.”
One thing you should not do is follow your fickle heart. Follow Jesus whole heartily as He will lead your heart. Is there hope for our wicked hearts? Yes! Allow Jesus to create in you a new pure heart and renew your spirit. Don’t allow your sinful heart to lead you astray.
Ezekiel 36: 26 “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.”
Store up treasures in Heaven. Rather live for Heavenly things instead of things that waste away. Set your heart on a course to heaven. Guide your heart, don’t follow it.
Matthew 6:21 says “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
